I found TV Ears to be easy to install and to work as advertised. It has been helpful for both I and my wife.
This product apparently does NOT work on Sony TV's which is the only brand we own. I am returning it today
This means you're out ~$40.00 just because you don't like them. Honestly, the $60.00 set I bought from Radio Shack is far better. Gizmos for Life and any other company with like policies are low life, low quality dealers. I don't know about other seller policies.
These TV Ears aren't even good enough to give to someone I hate.Ok, so here's a more technical review:When connected to the TV they give off a loud buzzing sound if you walk more than 5 feet away from the transmitter. I can't remember the last time I actually spent money on such horrible garbage. Be that as it may, the physical quality is lacking. I told her the L and R RCA audio jacks.
THis is the same port I've had many headsets plugged into. I am beginning to think that these are based on infrared technology that CANNOT transmit through walls.although the printed material that comes with the product does not say this. They are NOT made with anything approaching craftmanship. They are made of the cheapest materials that can be found and are flimsy beyond belief. I can only think that the poor people, who gave a good rating to this product, are so profoundly deaf that they have absolutely no idea what quality sound is like.
She told me the product would only work on ports labelled specifically "audio output". Now, I know a bit about electronics. Yet, Alison insisted it was incorrect. I encourage everyone to not waste their money on them, and I demand a full refund.UPDATE: BTW, beware. Considering the price tag, I expected far, far more.Pretty much this product sucks and the company tech support sucks. The sound quality is inferior and tinny. But, Gizmos For Life charges a 15% restocking fee if you return them for any reason.
The charging cradle is inferior, If you do not play with them and make sure they lights are on, they will not charge. The rep I talked to, Alison, wanted to know what TV output I had them plugged into. They also expect you to pay return shipping. Don't buy from them.
We own this headset and we love it. It is so lightweight and easy to wear. This size and comfort, the quality of the sound and the fact that we can walk around with them and still hear clearly is a big plus. This is a high quality product we recommend it to our friends often.
I wish they would make it easier to switch between the two. There are a few things that you should know first - if you have a DVR recorder attached to your tv you will find installation difficult to do, I called the help desk and they told me to buy a splitter for the audio cables, they are cheap from radioshack, and once I installed the splitter is was easy, the other thing that you need to know is if you want to watch tv and then switch to watch a dvd, you will need to unplug the tv ears cable from the back of the tv and put it in the back of the dvd player- this can be a bit complicated and time consuming to switch the device between the two, so I just unplug the audio cable from the recharge unit and put in the microphone attachment which is provided and put it in front of the tv speaker - mind you, be prepared for more background noise when you do this because it picks up every other noise in the room, it is not ideal but you can still hear better than without the tv ears.
I wish I had this years ago. I can't live without this item now.
My family are very happy to be able to turn the tv to a decent level now, I just turn the tv ears up. I have moderate hearing loss in one ear and nearly profoundly deaf in the other, I wear hearing aids but I can use these tv ears without wearing any hearing aids and for the first time in my life I have heard every word being said on the TV, before I needed the volume up loud and the subtitles on, since I got these tv ears I no longer need subtitles, even shows like CSI are easy for me to watch now.
I even take this item on vacation with me. You will need to have peace and quiet in the room to watch a dvd if you use the microphone attachment.
I also wish they could make these tv ears look a little less like a granny device, more modern would be nice, but it works wonderful so I will put up with the way it looks.
